Hi, I’m Nell, the creator of Joy Us garden. I’m a gardener, designer, blogger, YouTube creator, and author. I’ve been gardening for over 50 years and want to share what I’ve learned with you.
What I’m sharing with you is some of what I learned in college but, much more importantly, what I’ve learned from working with plants in various capacities and in different parts of the country.
Gardening is in my genes. I grew up on a small farm in a small town (and I mean small – the population was 892 when I was born) in Litchfield County, CT. We had a home greenhouse so, I could stay connected with plants in the cold months.
I went to college intent on studying landscape architecture but switched to ornamental horticulture and design. Less planning, more plants. I’ve worked in the field I studied for all my life.
I’m a life-long gardener who’s been an herb propagator, interior landscaper, nursery salesperson, flower show designer, garden designer, and professional gardener.
I went to college fully intent on studying landscape architecture but switched and got my degree in landscape and ornamental horticulture. Less planning, more plants! I’m one of those people who has worked in the field they studied all their lives.
I’ve lived in Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and now call Tucson home – many gardening zones with many gardening experiences to share!
For something a bit more personal, I’d like to share my love affair with houseplants and thoughts on leaving my beloved garden.

Lauren Landers is a full time gardening writer and Master Gardener with a passion for plants, gardening and polinators! Lauren ran a small, organic homestead in New England for several years before completing the Master Gardener program through the University of Maine. These days, Lauren teaches workshops on sustainability and self-sufficient gardening but she enjoys wildlife gardening and growing her own food too.

Miranda is the social media strategist behind Joy Us Garden. She effortlessly combines her love for writing and social media, transforming it into a thriving career. She’s learned a thing or two from this blog and has added a Ponytail Palm, Golden Pothos, and Fiddleleaf Fig to her growing houseplant collection.
When she’s not busy strategizing online, you’ll find her exploring new landscapes, whether it’s hiking hidden trails or embarking on scenic drives. Nature’s diversity captivates her, and she never misses a chance to soak it all in.
